Gold Squad Coach
Cathy Gerroir began her swimming career in the early 1970's as a swimmer with the Scarborough Swim Club, and swam up to the National level until her retirement from competition. Cathy has been actively coaching and teaching swimming since 1982, and is a fully certified Red Cross/Royal Lifesaving Instructor, Advanced Lifesaving Instructor, National Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, CPR C. and NCCP Level 2 along with many of the multi sport workshops.
Cathy owns and operates CG SWIM SCHOOL, a very successful private swimming lesson enterprise that has been in business in the Town of Whitby since 1992.
Cathy has been a Professional Swimming Coach since the late 1980’s with clubs in Scarborough, Pickering and Whitby- before revitalizing her career with a position at Ajax Swimming in 2013.
Cathy’s contribution to Ajax Swimming’s success has been invaluable as she has consistently developed and produced young age group provincial champions and finalists.
With the closure of the highly successful swim club in Ajax, Cathy and Coach Tom McLoughlin took ownership of the new Ajax Aquatic Club and resumed competitive swimming in Ajax at the beginning of the 2016 – 2017 season.

McLoughlin started his coaching career in Ajax in the late 1960’s, where he coached summers in the original Memorial Outdoor Pool. Upon completion of the Ajax Community Center in 1972, Tom started the Ajax Aquatic Club, which became a Swim Ontario affiliated club in 1973.
Tom began his career as a Teacher in the late 1970’s, but that did not interfere with his passion for swimming and his contribution to growing the sport in Durham Region. In addition to building the team in Ajax as Head Coach, McLoughlin formed the Whitby Iroquois Swim Club in 1976, where a talented young swimmer, Anne Ottenbrite got her start. This was the original swim team in the Town of Whitby where Tom coached for 8 years.
Upon his return to the Ajax Aquatic Club, Tom worked alongside Olympic Coach Paul Meronen, who had coached a Gold, Silver and Bronze Olympic Medalist at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles (Anne Ottenbrite).
Tom’s next stop was the Pickering Swim Club, where he worked for 5 seasons with Nick Baker, Coach of 1988 and 1992 Olympian Lisa Flood. During that time, Tom also worked with co-owner Coach, Cathy Gerroir.
In the early 1990’s, Tom started as the Head Coach of a small local team called the Durham Aquatic Club, which produced a number of Provincial medalists during its’ 8 year successful run.
By the late 2000’s, Tom had returned to the Pickering Swim Club as an Assistant Coach with Bob Boadway, Lucy Hewitt-Henderson and recently Anne Ottenbrite-Muylaert.

Club Fitness Co-ordinator
Andrew Miller is entering his 10th season as a coach in Ajax. Andrew grew up in Ajax and attended Ajax High. As an age group swimmer he swam for the Ajax Aquatic Club along with his high school team where he was a medalist and set records at both LOSSA and OFSSA.
Andrew has successfully completed Health & Exercise Sciences at Durham College. Andrew enjoys an active lifestyle involving golf, weight training and running.
Andrew is excited about coaching the accomplished swimmers in the club’s top level, the Elite Squad. Swimmers will be able to take advantage of his expertise in strength development and underwater video analysis as well as his comprehensive training plans. He implements a unique strength and flexibility program, not only for the Elite Squad, but for all of the club’s swimmers Junior Shark to the Elite Squad level.
Andrew has been flagged as one of Canada's promising young coaches and is taking advantage of the coach development opportunities afforded with this recognition. Andrew attended the American Swim Coaches Association Annual Clinic held in Washington D.C. last year, compliments of swimming Canada. He was recently recognized with Ontario's Coach of the Year Award for coaching the Top Male Swimmer. Andrew prepared Canada's top Backstroker, Olympian and Ontario Male Swimmer of the Year, Javier Acevedo for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where he won two Bronze Medals on Canada's Relays. Two of his swimmers, Danica Huizinga and Ryan Telford also distinguished themselves in previous seasons with Records at the Provincial International Short Course Championships in Butterfly and Breaststroke respectfully. Ryan Telford won Gold in the 200 m Breaststroke, Silver in the 100 m Breaststroke at that year’s summer's Long Course Senior Nationals. Last season, Age Group swimmer, Natalie Merrell set new 50 m and 100 m Provincial and Canadian records in Backstroke.
BRONZE COACH, SHARK & Junior Shark PROGRAM CO-ORDINATOR
Wendy swam with the Scarborough Swim Club and the Pickering Swim Club achieving Provincial status. She also swam competitively with her high school team.
Upon graduation she began teaching at CG Swim School where she worked for 17 years. Wendy brings to the club a wealth of experience working with swimmers of all age groups. She has helped develop swimmers’ skills for many local clubs through this venue.
Wendy's passion for the sport ultimately guided her to become a competitive swim coach. These past 3 seasons, Wendy worked with the Oshawa Aquatic Cub where she developed many Central Region qualifiers, medalists and Festival swimmers.
Wendy is a fully certified Level 1 NCCP coach and working toward NCCP Level 2. She is also fully certified National Lifeguard, First Aid Instructor in CPR-C & AED for both Red Cross and the Royal Lifesaving Society along with being a fully certified Red Cross and Advanced Royal Lifesaving Instructor.
Wendy joined our coaching staff for the 2017/18 season where she is the Head Bronze Group Coach and supervises the Shark groups and our "NEW" JUNIOR SHARK program and is assisting with club communications.
Club Silver Coach and All Squads’ Replacement Coach
Alison continues on our coaching staff this year as our Silver Squad Coach one of the coaches providing support and replacement as schedules and meets dictate. Allison has coached in the Durham region for many seasons. Alternately as a Head Coach for many years in Whitby and recently as an assistant coach in Pickering. Head Coach Cathy’s offer appealed to Allison’s passion for coaching and working with young swimmers and brought her out of her recent retirement from the sport. The lightened coaching responsibilities, proximity to home and opportunity to coach swimmers at various age and skill levels appealed to her.
Allison is a former National level swimmer and international Triathlete having competed in Scotland and Europe. This coupled with Allison’s numerous certifications, experiences and achievements across the age groups to National Level offer the swimmers another exceptional coaching asset.
Junior Shark & shark COACH
Kayla brings to her coaching many years of actual training and competing experience as an accomplished age group swimmer with the Ajax Club. She was a strong Freestyle and Butterfly swimmer. She has an organized, knowledgeable, energetic and encouraging approach to her coaching. We are happy to have Kayla working with our young swimmers developing their competitive skills.
Kayla joined the Ajax Club early as a young age grouper and it has been her home ever since. Now that she’s finished competing we’re happy that she’s keen to pass on her experience and skill.
Kayla’s success with our young developing swimmers last season bodes well for her to lead our young competitive swimmers for this season.
JUNIOR shark COACH
Catalina was a former Elite Squad swimmer. An experienced and strong age group swimmer, Catalina favours Butterfly and Backstroke in competitions. Catalina has assisted with our Summer Swim Camp coaching swimmers of all ages and skill levels in the past as well as coaching Junior Shark and Shark swimmers last season.
An academic achiever, Catalina is looking forward to University this year. Her extensive training as a talented age group swimmer with Scarborough, Markham and Ajax give her the background skill and training experience to draw upon as she instructs and coaches our young swimmers.
We are very pleased to have Catalina coaching our Shark swimmers developing their competitive skills.
